If you love a really rich and thick hot chocolate, you are in good company. I’ve got a go-to french hot chocolate recipe but I’ve jazzed it up for the holiday season. Whip up my peppermint hot chocolate and try telling me it isn’t the best thing you’ve drank all season (sorry eggnog).
When I was studying abroad in Prague back in the day, my friends and I used to love heading over to Cafe Louvre for a hot chocolate. I had never tasted something so rich, so decadent and so full of deep chocolate flavor. Needless to say, I was obsessed.
It’s been over eight years since my semester living in a tiny apartment on a street that I never quite managed to pronounce but I’ve never forgotten that hot chocolate. Somewhere between chocolate ganache and chocolate milk, the french hot chocolate, or chocolat chaud, is a chocolate lover’s dream beverage. Seriously.
I tend to go overboard on flavors when they come into season (I’m looking at you pumpkin) but I’m not sure one can go overboard on peppermint. It seems like I can add it to just about everything and it only makes it better. Chocolate cookies? Truffles? Ice cream? It works every time.
My peppermint hot chocolate has been keeping me hydrated while I put together my last few gift guides of the season. Stay tuned for some really fun ones next week that involve cats, chocolate and ice cream.
Speaking of gifts, how’s everyone doing on their holiday shopping? I thought I was just about done with my list before I realized that I had forgotten one of the toughest people on my list. Sometimes it’s easy to give someone socks but that doesn’t mean you should do it. Even if they seem really grateful when they open more work socks in their stocking. So if you’ve got some ideas for my dad, send them my way!
