Are you getting ready to watch the Big Game? I’m not a fan of a specific team but I am a fan of delicious food! I never say no to an excuse to have friends over for some kind of themed event so a gathering to watch the Big Game every winter is always on my to-do list! This year, I’m using Hatfield products to create a decadent (and EASY) spread of appetizers.
1. The more the merrier
Among my friends, no one has ever said ‘no’ to a spread of ethically raised bacon. Don’t feel like too much of any one item at your Big Game party is a problem, especially if you are serving it up in different ways. I’m using Hatfield classic bacon in three different ways for my simply delicious appetizer spread and each way is so different from the next!
2. Play with textures
Pair crispy bacon with something soft like cheese, scallops or dates. You can wrap Hatfield Classic Sliced Bacon around just about anything and it would make it more delicious. Fact.
While at Meijer picking up bacon to do some recipe testing with, I was inspired by another shopper’s cart to add tater tots to my meal plan for the week. By the time I reached the freezer section, my new plan was to combine two of my favorite things: bacon and sweet potato tater tots. I was testing my theory that you can wrap anything in bacon and, good news, it was a success.
If you also love the idea of bacon-wrapped sweet potato tater, wrap a half piece of Hatfield classic sliced bacon around a cooked sweet potato tater tot and a 1/2 teaspoon of goat cheese. Bake at 400 for 17 minutes.
If you love a little crunch, use some Hatfield Classic Sliced Bacon for a fresh batch of caramel bacon popcorn (recipe below). Each handful packs just the right amount of sweet and salty goodness. And who can argue with that?
3. Keep it Fun (and fun-sized!)
Am I the only one who thinks that when something is small it is extra adorable?
When it comes to appetizers for your Big Game viewing party, the key is to keep them playful and bite-sized. If your party is anything like mine usually is, there tend to be more people than chairs and definitely not enough table space for someone watching to chow down on a full meal. That’s where small, easy to grab-and-go appetizers come in handy!
Keep your appetizers small but packed full of delicious flavors! If you make some that aren’t small, make them easy to handle and carry around. These chocolate-covered bacon strips for example are bigger than a bite-sized appetizer but they are easy to eat on-the-go so they still work. Plus what’s more fun than chocolate and bacon? That’s a trick question because the answer is nothing. Dip your crispy bacon slices in chocolate (or paint it on with a pastry brush) and top with flakey sea salt for a sweet and salty treat!
Stock up on small plates and accessories like toothpicks and mini muffin wrappers to facilitate serving your small appetizers. Your guests are sure to thank you!
