Just because you’ve done something every year in the past, doesn’t mean that you’ll continue to do it every year moving forward. Due to a number of circumstances that range from work schedules to football games, it’s looking like this year will be the first time I host Thanksgiving at home. We usually travel to celebrate with family so I’m a little nervous about figuring this out for just Colin and I. Never one to play by the rules, I’m using this year as an excuse to set new traditions, starting with opting to reimagine traditional Thanksgiving desserts! (Sorry Colin)
Whether you’re also starting new traditions this year or just looking for something to bring to Thanksgiving dinner since someone else already signed up to bring pies, this list is for you!
Here are 3 ways to reimagine traditional Thanksgiving desserts.
Traditional Dessert: Apple Pie
I asked my Instagram audience for the most American thing to make this fall and while a few of my favorites crept into the recommendations (I’m looking at you s’mores), apple pie was the clear winner. When it came to picking some apple pie alternatives, this caramel apple pie slab was an easy first choice. Is there anything quite as impressive as a giant slab of decadent dessert? When it comes to feeding a crowd, this one takes the cake. Or Slab.
Once Thanksgiving dinner comes to a close, I always feel quite full. I have no self control around turkey or mashed potatoes so I love the idea of thanksgiving flavors packed into a smaller vessel like apple pie thumbprint cookies or apple pie donuts.
Traditional Dessert: Pumpkin Pie
If you get to Thanksgiving and aren’t sick of all things pumpkin, you are either really good at self moderation or you are a really big fan of pumpkin. Either way, bravo. If you want to take your pumpkin to-go, give pumpkin spice whoopie pies, pumpkin pie bars or pumpkin crinkle cookies a try!
Want to feel fancy without actually having to do too much? Pumpkin spice crème brûlée is the way to go. The decadent custard treat is always a crowd pleaser!
Lastly, if like me you find all things tiny to be adorable and way more appealing, these pumpkin cheesecake mousse tartlets are a must this Thanksgiving.
Traditional Dessert: Pecan Pie
These pecan pie shortbread bars are my absolute favorite thing right now. I made them last week and ate 6 pieces just while styling the photos. Once I started it was so hard to stop. So I didn’t.
Since my biggest issue with pecan pie is how messy and difficult to move around with it, most of the items on this list are all about portability. Pecan pie cookies, pecan cake fingers and pie crust cookies are all easy to grab and go. If I had to pick favorites with the cookies, I’d have to go with the pie crust cookies because they are so pretty!
I also included the pecan pie cheesecake because I couldn’t do a dessert roundup and not include at least one cheesecake option. There’s something about a nice creamy cheesecake that is undeniably decadent, making it the perfect holiday dessert!
Ready to serve up some reimagined traditional thanksgiving desserts? I’m right there with you! Whether you’re opting for cookies, donuts or bars, make sure to serve them up in style. Here are a few of my favorite pics for thanksgiving desserts.
